Has anyone here tried the Vonage VOIP Broadband Phone service for
£7-99 per month?
Yes

what was the quality of the calls like is it worth it?
how does it compare to Skype?

Anything is better than Skype, quality of calls good
cost depends on usage if you are making a lot of calls per day
then Vonage is really ok I only got rid of it due to the amount of
calls that I was making dropping considerably.
My call charges using www.voip.co.uk for last month amounted to
2.49p a saving of five pounds compaired with Vonage I also have a line
from www.voipfone.co.uk which cost 1.99 pr month which is only used
for calling home using their mobile call back service which gives me
calls back home from the mobile for 0 pence .
Vonage is a good service and well worth the money if your calling
pattern can make use of it ,on the other hand it is only 28p a day if
you do not make any calls and I don't think you can jump on a bus and
go one stop for 28p these days .
Just keep well away from www.sipgate.co.uk no matter what .

Hi
I agree, Voip.co.uk has been great for me and Chris is always on end of the
fone if things go wrong (twice and both times my fault). voipfones feature
rich service offers much more but the stability and quality of service from
voip.co.uk suits my needs

does anyone know if i can find on the market, a phone adapter for:

A) 3 accounts VoIP (3 different providers);

Yes. Easy. Look at the Fritz!Box range.

Quote:
B) 2 accounts fax (through 2 different VoIP providers)

Not so easy. Fax over IP is not very effective. Very hit & miss. It does
work on Sipgate, although it is not supported. You would be far
better off having a couple of fax to email numbers, unless your primary
objective is to send faxes.

C) an answering machine that plays 3 different msgs associated to
those 3 VoIP numbers.

You want an adapter that performs voicemail - or the provider? if the
latter, pick your providers carefully as not all voicemail is equal. You
could consider installing a Trixbox - see www.trixbox.org - a PBX in
essence with very very customizable voicemail.

If you don't have an identical server in all three, it doesn't work. Yes
it is nuts.

So make them all registrar.voip.co.uk or proxy.voip.co.uk

Hi - many thanks for that information. It looks like I'm doing everything
correctly. I have tried both of the above in all three places.

Quote:
Change auto to always. I've never ever had a Siemens phone work with the
setting on auto. Always Always or Never.

I've tried all three, both no good (always, auto and never).

My phone is registering ok - it shows on the telephony screen. Since my
original post, I've upgraded the firmware. Having done that, the message I
get when making a call is "VOIP Status code: 400". Before the upgrade is
was "Not available".

I'm getting really frustrated with it - I think it must be due to
Voip.co.uk. I don't think they support anyone during the weekend.

Can't see anything particularly wrong with that. Assuming there are no
other settings you haven't given us (e.g. AuthID and UseAuthID IIRC) then
have you checked your user name and password? Perhaps download x-lite and
try and register with that. If it is a registration problem, that already
narrows down the possibilities. For example, I don't think it is a
firewall/STUN issue.

I have tried setting up the phone with an old voiptalk.org account and that
works fine for outgoing calls. I couldn't receive any incoming calls but at
least I proved a point.

To do all that in one box, I think you would need your own install of
Asterisk.

400 means bad request.

What kind of router do you have?

Maybe there is a SIP ALG in your router that is mangling the SIP on the
way through.

Many thanks. It's a netgear DG834.

I don't think there is anything in the router's configuration about SIP. I
don't understand what ALG is.

Even Sipgate?

Don't get him started..!

I know it doesn't take much, perhaps he missed it (with a bit of luck).

I really struggled with a Netgear router and my sipuras with one way voice

and no connections and had to forward ports - something I never have to
worry about with the Linksys router. Have you tried configuring STUN just to
see if that helps the issue?

Yes, the 2800G is very fussy about ADSLmax. There are also problems
with its Wireless when using some chipsets and drivers.

Are you aware that most of the recent ones have a choice of different
firmwares to try in case of problems? I can't think of any other
manufacturer that offers that.

Yes, in fact I'm currently running 2.7.1 D79, which is a bit better
than the E38 I was running before, but still not perfect. It still feels
like they have some fundamental design defect, and the various firmware
versions are just "hope for the best" strategy, rather than Draytek
*really* understanding the issues and dealing with them.

I can only say that this is contrary to my experience with them. The
2600 that I used from 2003 until about six months ago is still going
strong in another family home, and the 2800G with which I replaced it
worked perfectly until I changed to Orange Broadband and they supplied
their own router. It even worked on the Orange service for a day
because they changed the service before the box arrived. The 2800G
doesn't have a VOIP phone socked, so I don't know if the appropriate
version (2800VG I think) would have worked with the Orange internet
phone service, but it was solid on the basic internet access.

How does that work? Surely there's a cost for the leg of the call from
voipfone to your mobile? Their prices for mobile calls surely make it
cheaper to simply call home direct?
Well I have never been charged for a single call from mobile back to

my home Voipfone number you are charged for calls to other numbers
15p plus the local call I was charged today.

Actually I think the VOIP device energy saving predictions based on a
seven year life span are clearly silly. Most devices get binned long

However a time switch on a socket that services many small devices
around say a TV or PC does sound sensible.

Or a switched socket like the ones from www.oneclickpower.co.uk .
Switch off your computer, hi-fi amplifier, etc and all its peripherals
are properly disconnected with an airgap between relay contacts. You
can switch the main unit off as well of course, but even if you
forget, there is only one item in standby mode instead of several.
